Large-scale construction company focusing on oil and gas projects.

Major problem: financial results of the projects (profitability) cannot be forecasted in continuous and accurate manner. We proposed to perform organizational assessment to reveal the issues and get back with system approach to implementation of corporate project management system..

Findings
  • Company employees are disappointed with the motivation;
  • Problem with keeping highly qualified personnel in the Company;
  • Construction sites are remote from the HQ causing issues with communications and coordination of project teams;
  • Weak culture of knowledgebase gathering, structuring and analysis.
Solution

Organizational assessment has been performed including:

  • Assessment of existing project management processes and practices and key cross-functional business-processes;
  • Analysis of contractor relations procedure within project management process of project management;
  • Clear identification of management requirements to expected results of key business processes optimization;
  • Definition of actual subordination between the employees (functional and project);
  • Identification of contradictions (if any) job descriptions / functions level within business-project management and corporate processes;
  • Producing recommendations on selection of specialized project management software with priority given to platforms used by the Company;
  • Assessment of company’s endowment with human resources necessary and sufficient for effective implementation and operation of corporate project management system.
Outcome

We used system approach to consequent implementation of corporate project management system and determined the action plan:

  • Revealed managerial issues and gaps;
  • Provided recommendations on corrective actions;
  • Provided recommendations on management system improvements;
  • Provided recommendations on automations (software selection).
